Well Mike, I've found over the last few months that MySource Matrix is a good product, but it's main drawback is that it's just not really very open source. At least not in the everyday sense that developers understand when they talk about things like Drupal or Wordpress being open source; lots of documentation, rich APIs, very large community, etc, etc.
I'm not saying Squiz aren't being honest about the open-source-ness of MySource Matrix. It is open source. Just not in a way that's particularly useful to developers who don't want to pay for advice, training, and support. As a PHP developer I would rather pay for someone to work on a CMS because I don't have time to, rather than have to rely on them because I can't understand how the CMS works.

Hi Matthew,
I bought a SSV version of MySource Matrix last year and went through the training for it. I then had to start a development company in the Philippines, so I taught some of the local developers the system and they very quickly began pushing the boundaries with it. Since then we have developed one major website for a modem manufacturer here (www.netcomm.com.au) that has thousands of pages, gets thousands of hits every day and the system handles it well. It runs on two servers (database & web apps).

We have also provided a cheaper alternative for Mysource Matrix users to get support and further development, including creating more complex functionality with front end scripting.

While we have no intention of being a rival for Squiz - they developed the system and will always be the best authority on it, we can fill in the gaps and help those who need a lower cost alternative. Our website is: http://www.mysourcematrix.com
